At the roots of the italian liqueur-making art
As early as the 16th century, Turin was known for its excellence in alchemy, pharmaceuticals and liquor production. The use of herbs and distillation techniques led to the establishment of a renowned school in the area. Nostradamus and Paracelsus cited Turin as a centre of alchemical studies.
In 1583, Charles Emmanuel's edict stimulated the arrival of liquor producers, many of whom established their opifications in the Dora Grossa district, the ‘Farmacopea taurinensis’ manual was then published and in 1739 the ‘Università degli Acquavitai e Confetturieri’ was founded. For the production of healing elixirs, rosolios, digestive bitters and vermouths, Turin became so important during the 19th century that it was known throughout Europe.

The Doragrossa Torino collection of liqueurs and vermouths is a noble homage to this historical tradition and the territory whose name it carries.
